Coastal Zone Color Scanner
The color of the world's ocean is determined primarily by the abundance of phytoplankton and their associated photosynthetic pigments.
As the concentration of phytoplankton pigments increases, ocean color shifts from blue to green. Ocean color may thus be used to derive estimates of plankton abundance and primary productivity.
